Apple Announced iPad 2; iPad Redefined
Apple iPad sold almost 15 million worldwide and still counting! But, the company is not ready to rest in its laurels by looking at that figures. Steve Jobs has just announced iPad 2 in San Francisco. The happy news is that, new version is available both in black and white colours. Its only been 2 weeks, since Samsung announced the new Galaxy Tab 10.1. So, the current move by Apple is really turning the heat on! Lets see what the new iPad 2 is packed with;
The main noticeable thing is that, the new iPad is thinner – 33 per cent thinner, clocking it at 8.8mm, or thinner than the iPhone 4 (which clocks in at 9.3mm). Surprised ah! still more changes are there like, performance is more evolution than evolution. With the same low power as the Apple A4 processor, the new iPad 2 utilises an all-new Apple A5 dual-core processor, presumably based on ARM’s Cortex-A9 design. Apple isn’t saying anything on clockspeed for the moment. Apple says the graphics have nine times the performance of the original iPad – that will still be some version of Imagination Technologies’ PowerVR SGX graphics chip. This will propel gaming onto another level, as will the gyroscope that was previously in iPhone 4 and the iPod touch.
The iPad 2 is loaded with the new version of iOS 4.3, which promises much improved Safari performance and iTunes Home Sharing feature. The iPad 2 is having a 9.7” inch LED-backlit IPS TFT, capacitive touchscreen, at a resolution of 768 x 1024 pixels. The device weights only 607g. Other features are 3.5 mm audio jack, Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n, Bluetooth v2.0, A-GPS. The device also supports HDMI output, which supports upto 1080p outputs. No setup or configuration is needed for the HDMI output. You can also charge your iPad 2 with the cable while you doing a presentation. The cable cost only $39.
Thankfully, the battery life is apparently not limited by the new design – it has the same 10 hour battery life as before, with a month of standby time. That’s quite impressive when you think about the reduced size of the unit.
At the launch, Steve Jobs said:
“With all this new technology onboard, surely something’s gotta give. But we’re managed to maintain our legendary iPad battery life, giving 10 hours of battery.”
However, iPad 2 isn’t the extreme makeover many were expecting. The device costs the same as the current iPad ($499 in the US) and comes with the same 16, 32 and 64GB memory configurations. The iPad 2 UK release date is 25 March, so expect it to start from £439 as before.
What you think about the new iPad 2! Is it really gonna takedown the Galaxy Tab 10.1? hmmm let me make that clear! Which one will you choose, Apple iPad 2 or the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1? Feel free to share your comments.
