From the time since Facebook was launched the team behind it is really trying to make it more and more sophisticated and user friendly. Lot of changes has been made in the privacy area and in the user interface. In between, facebook launched mobile site for mobile users. With all its limitations it served lot of mobile users. Now, the things changed. More than 30% of the total Facebook users depend mobile for Facebooking. And for them Facebook lately rolled out the new interface especially for touch screen phones. I know, most of the mobile facebookers use the dedicated app for viewing the Facebook news feed. But, i think its time to experience a different interface by Facebook itself. Let’s check ‘What’s new’ in new Facebook Mobile version for Touch Screen Devices;
To Access Facebook mobile version on your touch screen device, just logon to: touch.facebook.com
Let’s start from the home screen
Notifications, Messages and Friend requests are the major options in Facebook. May be we can say that, they are the three options that run Facebook. So, the importance goes to them and they are displayed in the facebook. On the older version, the notifications from Groups you joined were not displayed and that was annoying. But, the new facebook interface added that too in the homepage. As you can see the priority goes like this, the friend requests will be in the top of the list, then comments you received, then “like notifications” if your friends liked any of your share, then the notifications from Groups you joined, then calendar events, then Birthday notifications and at last “Poke Notifications”.
Facebook ‘Places’ Integration
The new interface give importance to the GPS location of the user too. Yes, Facebook places is also find its position near the share box allowing user to share his location when updating a status. This can be considered to be a privacy attack in some situations for those who care more about privacy, you choose between whether to check in or to just update status. I found this as very useful ‘cos i don’t want to link the Foursquare to facebook account anymore to share my location.
The great ‘+’ sign
You can see the ‘+’ signs to each posts. When you touch then you can see a pop up that shows ‘Like’ and ‘Comment’ options. This appears to be cool but, i found it as uncomfortable ‘cos when we touch them it will show the options and before even choosing any of it, the box disappears. I mean the box is not stable. But, sometimes its ok. Hope facebook will find something to solve this on next update.
The Menu bar
The menu bar looks redefined. On portrait mode it displays only the three options but, on Landscape mode it will show ‘Friends’ too. When you click on the ‘More’ option you will get a long list. ‘Pages You Admin’ is a nice addition to see our pages with a single touch. This box is also not stable sometime.
‘Home’ and ‘Back’ icons
This is one of the great addition. Where ever you are in Facebook you can just touch the ‘Home’ icon and you will be guided back to the home page. The addition of ‘back’ option is also made moving to the previous visited pages more easily.
Fan Pages
There is nothing much particular about the Page display. Still, i think there is more options to be added like, page statistics and also option to see the people who like the page especially for the page admin’s.
Finally, Connection Error!
This is the screen shot of the Facebook mobile version when Connection got terminated.
These are the changes that i observed in the new Facebook mobile version. If you find more, please feel free to share it. Thank you for reading. Happy Facebooking!!

Hello brother, your article was quite nice.
In regards to my Home internet connection, i am a low speed internet user. i would rather prefer to user Mobile version of Facebook (m.facebook.com) via Google Chrome. But recently, i've uninstalled the explorer and reinstalled once again. It seems all the settings has been gone. Now after when i logging in to Mobile facebook URL, m.facebook.com leading me to Touch version of facebook even though URL is same. how come it is possible. I couldn't see any settings option to revert back to Mobile version. it shows touch version for me. kindly help me in this trouble. Many thanks in advance.
Thanks Anish.
You are rite! The new interface is same for both [m.facebook.com] and [touch.facebook.com].
Earlier Facebook had the three interface for touch, mobile and desktop. Not only two interface is there. Mobile and touch is same and the desktop interface. I think there is no prob with the new version. As it uses almost same bandwidth. So, unfortunately we cannot do anything. Anyway see you around pal. Thanks for reading. Keep commenting.
