Sony announced their tablet range named as Sony Tablet S. Sony is trying to test their luck in the tablet session with the new tablet range. This tablet move from Sony is definitely going to amplify the tablet war and increase the customers confusion on which tablet they should choose. The device is releasing as an iPad2 killer in the specs wise. Sony Tablet S is powered by Android Honey comb. The official release date of the Sony Tablet S is set as mid-September, that is this month. The device is already available for pre-order on Sony Site. The main features of the device is the brilliant TruBlack display, Universal remote control facility using the IR rays etc. And for gamers, Tablet S is “PlayStation Certified” as it supports almost all the PlayStation games. The device has a powerful processor and great GPU for excellent gaming experience. Unlike the other tablets available in the market with the ‘all flat’ back panel, Sony Tablet S is thicker towards one end which offers more grip on hands and inclined display while it is placed on a table. The device is extremely light weight weights only 598g. There are more to tell. Let’s have a detailed review on the the Sony Tablet S.
Sony Tablet S : Appearance
We have already seen a ton of Honeycomb tablet this year and it’s really hard for a new tablet to compete with them in the market.
Specs wise almost all tablets offers same specs so, in order to stand out from the crowd the only thing you can do is by introducing a new innovative design. In my eyes Sony succeeded in that. The new Sony Tablet S has a completely unique wedge shape that gives better balance in hands and minimizes glare when we have it in the table. The inspiration for this design will be mostly from the magazine with the cover folded backwards. Of course the tablet is not thin as the iPad 2 but feels more solid than the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1.
The Sony Tablet S has a 3.5mm standard head phone jack, Full size SD card reader, USB sync and charge port. The display is 9.4” inch 800*1280 HD resolution capacitive touchscreen. The high resolution offers best in class video experience in the tablet. The display is using Sony’s true black technology which offers best contrast display and make the images and text more live and true. The tablet also has a Three-axis gyro sensor which offers high precision touch experience and multi-touch input method. Apart from that the device is also loaded with accelerometer for UI auto rotate. The tablet weights only 598g and available only in black color.
Sony Tablet S : Software and Hardware
Sony Tablet S is loaded with the latest Android Honeycomb OS. The device has a Dual-core 1GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, ULP GeForce GPU, Tegra 2 T20 chipset. The GPU is just enough to make up the PlayStation certification that Sony gave to the Tablet S. It also have 1GB RAM, comes in two models 16GB and 32GB internal memory. The memory can be expandable upto 32GB using SD card.
The tablet has a powerful battery which offers 400h standby and up to 31h of music playback.
Sony Tablet S : Camera and Other Features
Sony Tablet S comes with a 5MP autofocus camera with no flash support. The camera can shoot 720p videos @30fps. The camera offers features like Touch focus, image stabilization, geo-tagging, smile shutter etc. There is also a front facing VGA camera.
Other features include, PlayStation games support, Adobe flash 10.3 pre installed, Google apps, HD video playback, No GPRS, EDGE. Support 3G network HSDPA, 14.4 Mbps; HSUPA, 5.76 Mbps, Wi-Fi, DLNA feature, Bluetooth and Infrared port. The tablet S also feature IR remote control feature which comes with one of the best interfaces you have ever seen. Out of the box you can play the games like Crash Bandigoot and Pinball heroes.
Sony Tablet S : Price, Competitors and Final Words
The price tag of the device is kind of high. Sony Tablet S release date is set for the mid September 2011 and the date is confirmed to be 16 Sept 2011. As I said the device comes in two models. The 16GB Tablet S cost $499.99 and $599.99 for 32G model.
Like I said, there are tonnes of tablets are out there and here comes Sony with its initial move in the tablet category of products. The design of the Sony Tablet S is unique and its more comfortable in hands as it is light weight too. So, in design wise there is no other tablet in the market to compete against Sony. Well, considering the Screen size, Sony Tablet S has a 9.4 inch display with Sony’s true black technology which makes it compete against the 10.1 inch display tablets.
Overall, this is one of the best executed Android tablet you have seen. The hardware is beautiful and light weight, the screen pops and the software optimization are really great. The Sony Tablet S is not cheap but, if you are wandering for the high end Android Tablet then, this is the best choice you can make and I bet you wont regret your purchase. What do you think about the Sony Tablet ? Please do share you comments here. Thank you for reading.

is it can be installed another software just like microsoft word or excel or other software to make office use. thanks
i have tested the sony s tablet. was really disappointed with the actual screen size, which is only 7", and thus reduces the actual viewing size. this is a let down for an otherwise great design tablet pc.
You are wrong about the display size Ali.. The display size is 9.4" inch and I think its really k for a tablet…
The memory slot is nothing more than a built in usb cable. You must transfer data from the memory card to the tablet before you can use the data. Example: transfer an image before you can view it. My only other gripe is that I purchased the 16 gig version and can only see less than 8 availlable gigs to work with.
